The Society of London Theatre, a not-for-profit organisation championing London’s theatrical industry since 1908, has operated an in-person ticket booth in Leicester Square for over 45 years. Today it’s known as the Official London Theatre Ticket Booth (formerly TKTS), your go-to for on the day tickets, last minute theatre tickets and unbeatable day seats.

1980: Origin of the Half-Price Hut

The very first booth – dubbed the “Half Price Ticket Booth” – was a humble wooden hut in green and yellow stripes on the west side of Leicester Square. It pioneered the idea of discount theatre tickets in London and inspired countless imitators.

1992: Move to the Clocktower

After the installation of an electricity sub-station beneath the gardens, Leicester Square was officially reopened by Her Majesty the Queen in July 1992. At that time, our booth relocated into the clocktower building, with the Mayor of Westminster cutting the ribbon.

2001: Partnership with tkts New York

In 2001 we formed a long-standing alliance with tkts New York, globally cementing our spot as London’s home of tkts. This collaboration put us firmly on the map for anyone seeking last minute theatre tickets at a fraction of the price.

2020: On The Day Tickets Go Online

When the global coronavirus pandemic forced our doors to close in March 2020, we launched a brand-new platform so you could continue to buy on the day tickets online. Visit the Official London Theatre Tickets page to browse both same-day deals and advance bookings.

2021: Temporary Relocation & Return to the Clocktower

In September 2021, we reopened in a temporary kiosk during major works under the Leicester Square gardens. In July 2022, returned to our permanent clocktower home.

2025: Major Refurbishment & Relaunch

In early 2025, supported by Westminster City Council, our booth closed for a major refurbishment to enhance accessibility, customer experience and the working environment for our theatre experts. Following its official re-opening in June 2025, the refreshed booth is now back – and better than ever.
